ANTIQUE CANDLE STAND OF GRANDIOSE SIZE.
BRASS ALLOY WITH AN IRON PRICKET.
ETHNIC CHINESE OF JAVA.
CIRCA 18TH/19TH CENTURY WITH LATER 1931 DEDICATION ENGRAVING.

DIAMETER: 16.00” HEIGHT: 35.50”

The inscription reads, “Donated by the family of Kwan Im Hoet to Klen Teng, Batavia / Chinese Temple of Jakarta, Java – by the family member Oey Bian Teng. 31 Aug. 1931.”

This is the largest & finest specimen of its kind that I have seen. The dating of the temple donation is much later than the actual age of the piece. Looking underneath the circular pan, it is obvious by the deep red copper patina that the age is likely late 1700’s or early 1800’s.
