“Joka”, Everlasting Temple Lotuses.

A rare and exceptional set of 10 “Joka”, Japanese temple lotuses with a ceramic jar. Each flower is delicately and realistically sculpted in the form of unfurled lotus leaves, buds and blooms. The lotuses are lacquered and gilded wood, while the stems are made of rattan. This piece dates back to 1922. Based on their large size and quality, this set would likely have been used to frame the main altar area of a substantial Buddhist temple.
